how to disable ‘Get Windows 10’ notification…

Starting w/ July 29th, Microsoft offers a free for life upgrade to Windows 10 for some users – most users. That’s alright I guess, but how about the notification icon? :D

In order to disable the notification, you need to uninstall a few updates… Navigate to Control panel/programs and features/installed updates -find the tab on the left from the programs list.

KB2952664 – Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7
KB2990214 – Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows
KB3022345 – Update to enable the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows
KB3035583 – Update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1

The update responsible w/ the notification icon is KB3035583

The process associated w/ the notification icon is GWX.exe  (Get Windows 10)-task manager or autoruns.exe

If not in the mood to do all the clicks make a .bat file and uninstall everything in one step. Here it is, copy it in notepad and save it as .bat

Run the file as admin

@ECHO OFF
REM --- remember to invoke from ELEVATED command prompt!
REM --- or start the batch with context menu "run as admin".
